Hello Bluebirds!
Welcome!
Some pathway through the internet led you to this page and I’m so happy you stopped by. Hello Bluebirds is truly a confluence of my passions. Not the least of which is an appreciation for the stage of life that I find myself in.
If you’ve read the Our Story page, you know a little of my personal history so I won’t elaborate. However, you may be interested in the winding road that brought my husband and myself to live on a hobby farm in west central Wisconsin.
First off, both of us grew up on dairy farms and shared a desire to return to the country after living in small town/big city Minnesota for all of our adult lives. We explored the possibility of relocating to the desert southwest (St. George, Utah’s red rock, desert beauty, and warmer climate was extremely tempting). However, with our desire to be in closer proximity to our adult children (and eventually/hopefully) grandchildren, we finally ruled that out.
Several years after my husband suffered a major stroke that would permanently impact his mobility, our goals changed and we focused on building a home that was accessible AND in the country. As luck would have it, the forces aligned and we were able to build our dream home on a corner of the farm where my husband grew up. We relocated four years ago and are both extremely happy to be back home in the country.
Several ponds, woods and fields provide plenty of space for waterfowl and wildlife viewing. After clearing trails through the overgrown pasture we’ve labeled “the jungle” we are able to venture out in our side-by-side to witness spring-time nesting and fall colors.
Within a year of moving an hour away from Minneapolis, we added to our existing animal family of two dogs and four cats by acquiring chickens, alpacas, goats, guinea hens and another cat (because every barn needs cats). The farm animals and pets provide countless hours of entertainment with their antics and escape-artist tendencies.
After anticipating the role for years, it comes as no surprise that we are extremely thrilled to be blessed with a precious grandson and beautiful granddaughter, both of whom arrived this past year. These amazing miniature human beings are the inspiration for my first children’s books. That inspiration, along with the extra time in my schedule due to COVID-19 isolation and no commute time, I’ve been able to spend time writing and illustrating.
I hope you enjoy the stories and illustrations as much as I’ve enjoyed creating them. The characters are based on real-life animals on our farm, and the names have NOT been changed to protect the innocent! You may find portions of the stories that seem unbelievable and some that appear true-to-life. The reality is that they are a mixture of both. Can you guess what’s real and what is make-believe?
Thanks again for stopping by. We hope you will do so again. Please sign up for our newsletter and follow us on social media to ensure you don’t miss any of the latest updates from Hello Bluebirds or the many adventures on our farm.
