Our Original Books

“From Marvin to Mittens”

What Our Readers Are Saying

This book is a fun animal adventure with a few different lessons to teach! Marvin is a lovable young alpaca who likes to get into mischief and explore. His curiosity pays off when he escapes his fence and gets to learn just what happened with the fleece that was sheered off of him and his friends!

From Marvin to Mittens (and I love that clever title!) teaches kids the value of curiosity and the eagerness to learn, as well as the process of making fleece into all kinds of useful things! Adorable artwork and a little longer story make it an excellent book for parents to read to their children. Plus, there’s a delightful surprise at the end that’s sure to bring a smile to your face!

Join Marvin the baby alpaca as his curiosity leads him on a series of adventures in this hand-illustrated original storybook by Jacqueline A. Bance.

‘From Marvin to Mittens’ is a charming story that reminded me of taking the kids to an alpaca farm in a small northern town in Minnesota, (Barnum, where we live). Jacqueline Bance’s story is beautifully written and illustrated for young children. ‘From Marvin to Mittens’ teaches resourcefulness, kindness, and discovery are good.

Five wholehearted stars! I recommend Bance’s ‘From Marvin to Mittens’ to parents, grandparents, and teachers of young children.

What Our Readers Are Saying

This beautifully illustrated, informative book takes the reader on a journey through the seasons explaining the importance of bees and their role in sustaining life on our planet. Parents and grandparents will love sharing this treasure with their children and grandchildren. — Deborah G.

“Wonderful book for kids. This book is filled with charming, fresh, colorful illustrations. It contains easy to understand lessons for small kids about why bees are so important. But it's not just about bees. There are smaller lessons there that will raise questions in curious young minds, such as about farm animals, crops, putting foods up for winter, soap made from goat's milk, and so on. The little clues dropped in this book offer opportunities for considerable education, if you encourage a growing mind to consider each page, the art and explanations. Use care, though, since you might end up with a budding farmer and bee-keeper in your family! Great for bedtime reading to the small ones in your home. Five stars all the way.

— Mark and Diane

“Great book to share with kids about the need for bees! So many kids, mine included, didn’t grow up anywhere near a farm or spend any time on one - or even a garden! Fun book with great illustrations!”

— Leslie O.

“The kiddos will enjoy this one before bed. A happy story with family, colorful illustrations, and a good message.”

— Jenn

“A sweet book for children to gently help them understand the importance of Bees. The book was beautifully illustrated with a story that will captivate young readers. The role of bees is profound and the farm is the perfect place to explore this story. We see the progression of the seasons and the interdependence of other creatures. I recommend this book for children, in these days, where we are so often removed from nature.”

— Greg A.

“My youngest is afraid of bees. He always runs away from them and wants me to kill them. This book is helping my son become more comfortable with bees as they do their important work!”

— Laura

Lots of information about what bees do and how they interact with other animals. I liked that the author gave specific examples like how the bees fly in a zig zag pattern. A cute short read for kids. Kids will love learning how bees are important to us and to animals.

Winter’s blue is like

A shaft of ice

Stabbing at the lungs

And yet the very hue

With springtime sun

Dances in the eyes

Of the ageless young.”

“Preface to Spring

Do you know what I want to

do?

Look for pussywillows;

Ask of the sun’s first warmth

Furry catkins bursting forth

Gather sunlight and branches

Give me springtime

Before it turns to green”
